Welcome to… Meet the Directors
Where you can learn a little more about our team and what makes us tick.
Please meet – Dan Wallis
How long have you been in the real estate industry and where were you prior to setting up Clarity Building Consultancy?
I have over 20 years’ experience in the commercial real estate industry. Having worked at a mix of consultancies during that time, it has provided me with a wealth of experience across the full spectrum of building surveying disciplines. This covers all aspects of the property life cycle, including acquisition, occupation, and disposal.
Prior to setting up Clarity I led the building surveying team at Paragon Building Consultancy (which later became part of Colliers) in Bristol, where also co-headed the broader Project & Building Consultancy team.
I joined in 2019 as part of a newly formed team following the opening of their Bristol office. I was tasked with helping grow the building surveying offering in the South-West and in May 2022 Paragon merged with Colliers International. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and had the opportunity to work with some great people, but I felt it was time for a new challenge and to take the next step in my career and decided to set up Clarity.
Why did you decide to set up Clarity?
Quite simply, we felt there was an opportunity to do better. We want to put our client’s first and aim to provide an excellent service by giving clear commercial advice, delivered on time and without fuss, via a truly director-led approach. We want to provide an accountable independent alternative to the larger corporate organisations that we have stepped out of.
We also believe businesses have a wider social and environmental responsibility to do better. This is why we have committed to obtaining our B-Corp (Pending) certification in our first 12 months and becoming a full B-Corp registered business within 24 months. This imposes a legal obligation on our business to meet high standards of social and environmental performance.
How do you think you use your expertise to add value to clients?
Attention to detail is key when it comes to providing building surveying services but being commercial and being able to see the bigger picture is equally important – I feel being able to strike the right balance between these two attributes is key to achieving our client’s overall objectives.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy being hands on and getting involved in all aspects from ‘the day job’ of delivering high quality building surveying services through to everything else that goes with running a consultancy including the branding, marketing and less so, the admin aspects of running a business.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
I’m happy pretty much anywhere where the sun is shining! However, as a family we do enjoy the Greek Islands and have been to Rhodes the last couple of years. Chilled evenings spent meandering round the streets of Rhodes old town stopping off for a cold beer whilst deciding which taverna to eat in for the evening.
How do you spend your spare time?
I have two young boys who keep my very busy! They are both football mad so weekends (and the majority of evenings) are normally spent on the sidelines cheering their teams on. I also help coach my youngest’s team which I love and find incredibly rewarding.
When not on the sidelines, I like to keep fit by going to the gym. I also enjoy carp fishing and belong to a syndicate lake where I go to escape and enjoy some rare chill out time.
